Known in the Denver area as a prominent refractive surgeon, Dr. Lawrence Spivack has been providing Colorado patients with high-quality vision correction surgery for more than 27 years. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York in Buffalo with a degree in psychology and went on to Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston for his Doctor of Medicine. He completed a medical internship at the Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Colorado Medical Center before being board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Since the start of his career, Dr. Lawrence Spivack has successfully performed more than 40,000 laser surgery and 6,700 radial keratotomy procedures in Colorado. He received the VISX® Star Award from VISX and was named one of the top performing refractive surgeons. He was also designated by VISX® to be one of 40 refractive surgeons in America that are certified to train other surgeons in laser vision correction surgery. He has taught various courses to ophthalmologists from across the globe.
Dr. Spivack's specialty is laser vision correction. He was the first refractive surgeon in Denver to be certified to perform PRK, and the first to do LASIK on an FDA certified laser in Colorado. In 2004, he became the first Denver refractive surgeon to receive Crystalens® certification. In addition, 5280 magazine and KCNC-TV Channel 4 have both named Dr. Lawrence Spivack as the best LASIK surgeon in the Denver area for four years in a row.
In his free time, Dr. Spivack enjoys spending time with his two sons. He also enjoys golfing and skiing.
Jason J. Wang, M.D., eye physician and surgeon at Omni Eye Specialists and Spivack Vision Center / Colorado Laser Surgeons, received his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University. He obtained his medical training and medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He obtained his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. After residency, he sought subspecialty training in Cornea Transplantation and LASIK Refractive Surgery by completing a fellowship program at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Dr. Wang has contributed to the field of corneal disease and refractive surgery with scientific publications in the medical literature and presented work at a national ophthalmic meeting for which Dr. Wang garnered “Best Paper of Session” distinction. During medical school and residency, he participated in research involving retinal pigment epithelial transplantation and corneal epithelial stem cell survival.
Dr. Wang strives to keep abreast of the latest advances in cataract, corneal, and refractive surgery. Dr. Howard Amiel, physician and surgeon specializing in cataract, corneal transplant surgery, anterior segment eye disorders, and refractive surgery, received his undergraduate education at the University of Iowa and medical training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. After completing his residency at the Brown Medical School, he joined the faculty and remained to teach and mentor medical students and Ophthalmology residents in the emergency room, clinics, and operating room. He completed two fellowships prior to coming to Omni Eye Specialists and Spivack Vision Center / Colorado Eye Specialists: one in Cataract and Refractive surgery with Dr. Paul Koch of Warwick, RI, and another in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He brings to Omni Eye Specialists and Spivack Vision Center / Colorado Eye Specialists extensive training in corneal transplantation techniques, LASIK surgery, specialty refractive intraocular lenses, and complicated cataract surgery.
Dr. Amiel has received numerous academic and clinical awards throughout his educational career, including the Gloria Arndt Award, awarded “to the medical student who best demonstrates kindness, compassion, and altruism”. He has contributed to the field of corneal, cataract and refractive surgery with scientific publications, invited lectures, and participated as a reviewer for multiple ophthalmic scientific journals.
When Dr. Amiel is not treating patients, he enjoys participating in outdoor activities such as mountain biking, snowboarding, and running.
Dr. Vandi Rimer graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She went on to Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon, where she completed her Doctor of Optometry degree. During her education, Dr. Rimer completed a LASIK internship at the Eye Institute of Utah, a primary eye care and ocular disease management internship at Eyes of Arizona, a pediatrics and vision therapy and contact lens internship at Portland Clinic, and an internship on low vision exams on children at Washington State School for the Blind. She also completed residency training at Omni Eye Specialist in ocular disease as well as refractive and ocular surgery.
Dr. Rimer stays committed to continuing her education and has performed research on various vision-related issues. She has worked in conjunction with Alcon®Laboratories on product comparison for Systane® and Allergan® Refresh™ artificial tears for dry eye syndrome. She has also worked with CooperVision® on research on the effects aspheric contact lenses have on low amounts of astigmatism. Currently, she is an affiliate clinical professor for Pacific University College of Optometry.
Dr. Rimer's specialties at Spivack Vision Center / Colorado Laser Surgeons include general optometry, ocular disease, and refractive surgical consultation and follow-up care.
Sumit A. Sitole, MD, a New England native, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. He subsequently attended Tufts University School of Medicine where he completed his medical education. After an internship at the University of Chicago, Dr. Sitole completed his residency in ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center. Upon the conclusion of his training in ophthalmology, he completed a two year fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Krieger Eye Institute in Baltimore, a fellowship approved by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.
Dr. Sitole has been published numerous professional journals and considers himself especially fortunate to have had the opportunity travel internationally on medical mission trips where he has taught in his field of expertise.
Dr. Sitole is an avid hiker, recently completing climbs in the Himalayas, the Andes, and Mount Kilimanjaro. His other interests include running, basketball, and audio equipment.
Dr. Sumit Sitole specializes in minimally invasive cosmetic, functional, and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face.
Dr. Thomas R. Cruse received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and his Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He was the recipient of the Lawrence P. Feignebaum Clinical Optometry Memorial Award as the top clinician in his graduating class. He is a founding member of the iPRO Program, educating and enhancing optometric students’ private practice experience and opportunities. He completed a residency at Omni Eye Specialists and Spivack Vision Center in Denver.
While at Omni Eye Specialists, Dr. Cruse received training in advanced diagnostic techniques and medical management of anterior and posterior segment eye disorders. He also received extensive training in Refractive Surgery where preoperative and postoperative management of Laser Vision Correction was emphasized. Post residency, Dr. Cruse is a valuable member of the Omni Eye Specialists and Spivack Vision Center physician team.
He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Colorado Optometric Association.
He enjoys spending time with wife and enjoying outdoor sports.
